In another large bowl:

Cream the Shortening and Sugar till fluffy. Add the Egg, and Molasses.

Beat until smooth.

Egg And Molasses Are Added

Beat Until Smooth

The Dry Ingredients Ready To Be Added

Divide Dough Into 5 Balls

Add The Dry Ingredients

Add the flour mixture, 1 cup at a time.

You will need to mix the dough with your hands till it’s nice and smooth. If it’s too stiff, add just a little milk. You want the dough like rolled cookie dough.

After you have worked the dough, divide it into 5 balls.

I suggest 5 balls, because if you try and roll too much dough at one time, it becomes difficult. It's just easier to work with smaller amounts of dough, I think.

Placing The Waxed Paper Onto Work Surface

Place one sheet of waxed paper on your work surface. Place one of the balls of gingerbread dough on top, and then place another sheet of waxed paper on top.

Roll out the dough. Flip it over, and continue to roll until it’s nice and smooth.

The dough should be rolled out until it’s about ¼ inch thick.

How The Waxed Paper Should Look

Rolling And Cutting Out The Dough

Use a gingerbread man cutter to cut out the Gingerbread Men. Gently pick up each man, and place it on the baking sheet.

Bake at 350 degrees for 10 min. Be careful not to overcook.

After the Gingerbread Men have cooled, you are ready to decorate them.

Ingredients For The Frosting

Ingredients For The Frosting

For the Frosting to Decorate the Gingerbread Men you will need;

3 Tablespoons Meringue Powder

6 Tablespoons Warm Water

1 pound box of Confectioner’s Sugar

A decorating bag with a very small tip.

After Frosting Has Been Beaten Well

Making The Frosting

Mix the Meringue Powder, Water, and Sugar in a large bowl until it holds a peak.

If you have any leftover Meringue, cover it with a tight fitting lid and refrigerate

Place a small amount into the Decorating Bag, and Decorate the Gingerbread Men.

After Decorating The Gingerbread Men

The Decorated Gingerbread Men

Storing The Gingerbread Men

This Frosting will get VERY HARD. This makes it easy to write a name on the Gingerbread Man, and also makes it easy to stack and store these Gingerbread Men. I like to place each man in a Zip Lock Sandwich Bag. Keep them stored in a container with a tight fitting lid.

Hi thelyricwriter: You don't know what you have missed all these years. I use this same recipe to make gingerbread to build houses at Christmastime, too. That's another Hub in the making later! Do try to make these.

mary615 7 months ago

Hi Gypsy, do try to make these. Just take off your rings, and get your hands all gooie with gingerbread dough! It's great for relieving stress. See you....

Our local bakery makes the best gingerbread men I've ever tasted, and yours look just like theirs. My grandkids will love these!! Thanks, and voted up.

I SO want to make these! I've never tried to make my own gingerbread men. I do have a question, Where can I find Meringue Powder? I've looked but had no luck.

Thanks for sharing this recipe. Now, I have another treat to add to my Christmas baking list.

mary615 7 months ago

Hi stylezink! So glad you're going to try to make these adorable little men. I used to make the hard frosting from egg whites until I discoverd the Meringue Powder. I bought this product from Michaels' Crafts, but I've seen it in our local grocers too. Let me know how you do on these...would love to hear. Any questions, just email me, OK???

Habee, So glad you like. You won't have any problem making these, cause you're such a great cook yourself. Toward Christmas when I do these, I write each child's name on theirs, and they think that is SO special. Email me if you have any questions or problems.

Thanks for the tip on where to find it. I should have thought to look at Michael's. I local groceries stores didn't carry it. I drove my other half nuts searching all the stores one weekend, lol. I will let you know how they turn out. I might try to do them this weekend. I'm feeling a baking itch coming on! Thanks again!
