These are instructions for making a No Bake Cookie and Candy House. This house can be used to decorate for all occasions. This is a really fun project to do that uses cookies and candies to decorate a house that you make out of Foam Core. I use the same house each year to make a Gingerbread House, but this year I am making a No Bake Cookie and Candy House. If you construct the house using this foam core board, it will be sturdy enough to save for years to come. You can also make a house out of a small mailing box.

Supplies You Will Need To Build The House

This is what you will need to build your house:

1 sheet of Foam Core Board. This usually comes in a sheet 40 X 30 inches. Any craft shop will have this.

A ruler

A sharp utility knife

Clear packing tape

Aluminum Foil

You will need a base for your house. I used a cover for a large plastic storage box I had. This way you can move the house around without destroying it, and you can build a yard with trees, walkway, etc. You can also buy a piece of Styrofoam for the base; whatever size you want.

Cut The Pieces For House From The Foam Core Board

To prepare the house:

Cut 2 rectangles from Foam Core Board; each one 6 inches X 10 inches. These will be the 2 sides of the house.

Cut 2 pieces from the Foam Core Board: Each one 8 inches X 10 inches. These will be the 2 ends of the house.

Cut 2 pieces from the Foam Core Board: Each one 6 ½ inches X 10 inches. These will be the roof of the house.

Attach the pieces of the house using the clear packing tape.

Cover The Entire House With Aluminum Foil

Cover the entire house with Aluminum Foil. Use the clear packing tape to hold the foil in place. The cookies and candy will be attached to the foil on the house. That way it’s easy to just peel and eat what you want directly off the house.

You Can Use A Small Packing Box For A House

If you don't want to go to the bother of constructing a house, use a small packing box. Just make and add a roof.

Buy Cookies And Candy For The House

Now, you are ready for the fun part! I have made these houses using graham crackers, but this year I used a wafer cookie. Just go to the store and look at the different cookies and candies. Suit yourself and buy whatever you would like on the house.

Ready To Decorate The House

I use Meringue powder for the “glue” to hold the cookies and candy on the house. I find this at the craft or grocery store. If you mix it according to the directions, it is just the right consistency for this project.

I make trees from ice cream cones. Ice the cone and sprinkle multiple colored sprinkles all over the cone.

I cover the base of the house with icing, and sprinkle coconut all over to simulate snow.

I make a front walk with M&M’s. I have had this Santa and Reindeer for years. I just bring them out each year. If you have any little decorations you’d like to use, go ahead and be creative!

I Finished The House In Time For Christmas!

After the goodies are eaten off the house, be sure and SAVE your house for next year. If I have the time, I will make a Gingerbread House, using that small box I made into a house. I will make Gingerbread, and using the same technique, make a Gingerbread House.

I hope you will make this cute little Cookie and Candy House and enoy it for the Holidays.

Hey lord, does this mean you are going to make one of these Cookie and Candy houses? Honestly, by the time I finished making this, I had icing everywhere, even on my face! Don't ask how I got it there. It was a messy job, but it was a fun job! Thanks for reading and commenting. Glad you got a "kick" out of reading it. Regards as always, Mary

You didn't use gingerbread this year? Ryan is excited to try your homemade gingerbread. I told him its the best I've ever had.

Hi hed, if I have the time, I might do a Gingerbread House. Make some for Ryan using my recipe on the Gingerbread Men Hub. It's the same for the house. Thanks for reading.

Hi there HBN! good to see you. Yes, I take a lot of photos, but I'm not good at them like you are! When are we going on another beautiful tour???? Thanks for the votes, too! Have a wonderful day. Regards, Mary

Yes, Will, this will keep the kids busy for a LONG time. It's also guaranteed to make a wreck of your kitchen. I really miss having little kids to help me. I have the 16 yr. old son left at home, and he still likes to help, but there is nothing like the excitement of little ones playing in the icing! Thanks for reading how I make a Cookie and Candy House!

This is an awesome tutorial Mary. Really amazing and easy to follow. Even a person doing this for the first time can make it beautiful. I may even give it a try. My son would like to help. He loves to cook. Thank you times 1,000.

Hi Hyphenbird! Good to see you. Thanks for reading and for the nice compliment. It is a fun project to do. It isn't hard at all and it makes a nice centerpiece for the Christmas season. See you again soon, I hope.

What great easy-to-understand instructions, Mary, for a very clever Christmas cookie/candy house. I'm giving this to a neighbor who loves creating this sort of thing. She can use it for the centerpiece on her dinner table at Christmas. Will keep you posted.

Hi drbj, thanks so much for taking the time to read this, and for the compliment on my cookie/candy house. I'm so glad you will share it with you neighbor. Do let me know how she does with it. Building the house is the hard part, the rest if just fun! But she can save the house to be used again and again. Why don't you make one???? Goodnight.

I had never thought of making it out of inedible materials, but why not. This is such a great and fun idea. It is so much stronger than one made with cookies too.

I live it!

Voted up. Looks a great idea (esp. for your grandchildren, maybe, right?)

Hi homesteadbound! I don't know how you made yours with cookies that wasn't strong. If you make decorate a house made of foam core or cardboard, it will be very strong. I'm taking this cookie/candy house to Tampa this weekend for my Granddaughter's college graduation party. See you again, soon I hope.

Mary thank you for sharing this hub. I always make up hampers for all the houses that I send presents too. This is a stunning idea for Rebecca's family where there are 4 children and they are only the young ones lol. Net:)

Good Morning, thebluestar, hope all is well in N. Ireland today. Children love these Cookie and Candy houses, my grandchildren enjoy this more than a gingerbread house cause they don't care for gingerbread, but they love candy and cookies! I made another one and I used what we call pariel for the roof. They are small cholate candies that have tiny little white candy dots sprinkled all over. That roof was gorgeous.

Oh Mary, I had missed this somehow before! I absolutely love this hub!! The finished house is wonderful, as are your photos all along the way. We have tried off and on over the years, to make houses. My older son had the most success, but for the most part we kind of know its going to be pretty hard. This makes it seem doable, more sturdy and joy along the way. So glad you shared it! Goodnight friend. :) Voted up and more.

Good Morning, oceansnsunsets! So nice to see you today! Thanks for reading about making a Cookie and Candy House, and thanks for the votes! As long as you have a sturdy house, you won't have any problems. The first time I made a gingerbread house, I tried to "glue" the pieces together without a house. What a disaster! One of my kids said instead of using store bought cookies for the roof, use some home made ones instead. You can really let your imagination go wild! I hope you have a wonderful day.
