A Love Affair On A Collision Course
This is a poem of a man and a woman who met, and at first, they are silent about their interest in each other. After a while, they feel the mutual passion, and it overtakes them. I compare this passion to a flight on a 747 airplane: higher and higher. This passion grows until it is impossible to turn back. As they soar in their passion, their worlds collide , and they realize they are hurting others who love them. Now, they must crash their beautiful flight. Can the wreckage ever be salvaged? Will the wreckage just rust away? Their mutual hope is that the affair can be repaired, and they can continue in their love forever.
The Love Affair
You glided into my life, silently, for a landing,Comparable to a beautiful airplane, the 747,
As time passed, the anticipation grew,
Of our eventual takeoff to heaven.
We gathered speed, and raced down the runway,
Like the sleek jet, we lifted toward the sky,
Smoothly, we soared through clouds of passion,
Never thinking of the consequences or why.
For a time we tried to meet our schedules,
So our emotions would not collide with other flights,
Content to just glide along, first only during light of day,
Then, growing braver with more desire, we began to fly at night.
On one of our wonderful adventures in space,
We collided in mid air with the terrible facts,
That no matter how well we piloted this affair,
Other relationships would die because of our acts.
But the ones hurt most by this collision,
Were the two of us who steered our fates,
All because this beautiful Flight into happiness,
Was scheduled to fly twenty years too late!
Will the affair between the two of us be repaired,
Without permanent damage to it's parts?
Or will the remains be hauled away to the junk heap,
And lay paralyzed with two broken hearts?
I would like to think that we will not give up,
But will work hard together toward our ultimate goal,
To repair the damage, and once again soar toward heaven,
Till we both grow very, very old.

Sometimes passion does seem to equal the power and majesty of a 747. I really like the analogy you used. Very creative!
This is a wonderful poem! Your writing is so unique and powerful!
You've no idea how much this hit home. Thanks.
Great Metaphor!
Hello Mary, wonderful poem and I love the title and comparison to the flight of a 747, very clever and unique style of writing.
Voting up, best wishes MM
Oh mary the strength the faith your this poem shows , even not letting the flight crash when its getting turbulent.... it's an amazing poem full of hope, love and strength. :)
Beautifully written with fresh metaphors that soar and take us with it. Sadly, many will relate. I say sadly because no matter how affairs end someone always gets hurt and also sadly because the original flight 20 years ago was canceled. Perhaps these two lovers really had been meant to soar through life together.
But reunited sweethearts from the past fare much better when both are single when they meet again. Then there is a wonderful chance for happiness the second time around as our sweet Movie Master can attest to!
Voted up, useful, awesome and interesting.
Mary615,How great was that. The BEST!! great hubs

Love the theme, very creative, and unique, it speak of love, tragedy, high-level attention is what you did here, you dig deep apply some bad experience and made a joyful experience, you also keep your audience in tune (at least me) to the end.. this is a wonderful
thumbs up and a highfi....
your welcome Mary615.. a making of a poet here(:)
Hi Mary,
Beautiful! Love can sweep us away like a 747 taking us on an new adventure. Unfortunately, love comes to late for some or was never meant to be.
Voted up, up, and away!
Loved it! We can't always choose who we will fall in love with and there will always be some consequences.
Clever analogy, Mary! I've never thought about comparing love to airplane flight, but you made it work. voted up!

Wonderful metaphor!!!
Take care Mary!
Good analogy and a very fine poem Mary. "We can never know about the days to come, but we think about them anyway, and I wonder if I'm really with you know, our just chasin' after some finer day....Anticipation."
A mad, passionate love affair is as you describe it though I never would have made the plane connection myself. I enjoyed the ride. Thank you!

The passion and likeness to an inbound flight to the heart is beyond creativeness. Awaking our senses in a different way. the unlimited love will reach the skies and will take us on a flight that..hmm!, when landing will defenitely end in a solid bond and commitment, since we realize that the flight of Love was in danger... Back on earth is our turn to keep it alive despite the negativy of society. Well written Mary, ands your efforts pay off!...as always was nice to read your inspirational piece. I'm voting up this up 747 times...but where is that button?
